Pro-Bono Public Relations, Statehouse Representation and Lobbying for Moose Maine Kids

Moose Maine Kids is a non-profit organization that takes over 100 kids hunting every year, Moose Maine Kids Dream Adventures is a related non-profit that takes children with critical illnesses, like cancer, on the outdoor adventures of their dreams. These adventures range from Moose hunting to fishing for brook trout to whale watching and everything in between. Jared is on the board, in addition to being their lobbyist in Augusta. MMK has made a concerted effort to not only open up opportunities for the kids that participate in their program, but open up opportunities for kids across the state to get into the woods.

In 2024 Jared and the Executive Director of MMK realized that the state was giving Moose Permits to two out of state organizations who organize the hunts for the kids. The problem was, these organizations were taking kids from other states on these adventures. Maine kids and their families were unaware of this opportunity. Not wanting to take the first two permits away, Jared wrote a bill to increase the number to 5 permits and mandate that the 3 new permits were given to Maine organizations to take Maine kids on the Moose Hunts. This bill was after the deadline, so it faced the added hurdle of needing to be cleared through the Legislative Council. The Legislative Council is made up of all the caucus leaders of the legislature, it has many jobs but one of them is approving after-the-deadline bills. Not only did this bill pass, it was unanimous. In fact, it was unanimous in the IFW committee, unanimous in the House and unanimous in the Senate.

Moose Maine Kids has received all three of the permits every year since the program was put on the books.
